Joseph Jones – Beneath the Skin 2026

Suspended between warmth and cold, desire and distance, X-Ray: Beneath the Skin 2026 is a shared moment held still, where love and mortality occupy the same space, and intimacy is not diminished by vulnerability, but defined by it.

In Joseph Jones's 2026 X-RAY: Beneath the Skin collection, the contemporary artist explores connection at its most vulnerable level, extending meaning beyond surface identity. By merging anatomical imagery with living form and stripping the layers of skin, ego and social performance, Joseph reveals closeness not as idealised romance, but as shared fragility and emotional exposure.

Presented as a circular artwork, a deliberate choice embodying the cycle of life, love, mortality and reinforcing themes of unity and interdependence; the figures exist in an intimate and contained space - a moment of closeness suspended in time.

Produced as an anaglyph, the artwork employs the contrast between the saturated red and blue to create a dimensional and fractured viewing experience - representing multiple visual realities at once and therefore mirroring the complexity of intimate relationships.

When viewed without filters, the images exist in tension and overlap - combining both realities; and when seen through the anaglyph lenses, they shift into a single-dimensional space. What is revealed is not certainty, but exposure, the impossibility of fully seeing or knowing another person from one single perspective. Not used as a symbol of death, the skill imagery is rather a symbol of truth - what remains when everything superficial is removed.

"When I paint, I want to create depth by manipulating and moulding the paint. I want the brush stroke to sculpt out the features." - Joseph Jones
